Check-Ups & Consultations

Prevention is better than Cure

Put your oral health care first

Put your oral health care first, with routine check ups and consultations that will help you to meet your dental health goals. Taking good care of your teeth and gums begins with a dentist check up and a discussion about how you’d like to meet your dental goals.

  • After a consultation, you’ll be able to work with your dentist to develop a treatment plan that works to meet your needs.
  • It’s important to remember that it is at your routine check up that many dental concerns can be recognised before they are allowed to progress to a more serious situation.

Checkups and Consultations

What is involved in a routine dentist check up?

Firstly Bernard, Caoilfhionn or Meabh will carry out a full dental examination. A full mouth assessment will be done which includes teeth, gum health, soft tissues and jaw joint (TMJ). X rays and photographs may be taken if necessary. An oral cancel check will also be provided.

After your dental check up, your dentist will advise you how often you should attend and we can set you up on our recall system on a 6 or 12 monthly basis.

Dental decay starts small. That small cavity can soon expand into a larger area of decay that may lead to the need for root canal therapy, or the loss of the tooth if it’s not addressed. During your routine check up, you’ll be afforded the chance to share with your dentist any concerns or discomfort that you’ve experienced with both your teeth and your gums. Your check ups are your chance to speak openly and truthfully with your dentist, and to get any concerns addressed with answers that’ll help you to make the right decisions for your dental health care.

Your check up is the perfect time to tell your dentist about any differences in your teeth or gums. Have you experienced temperature sensitivity? Is there any swelling or pain?

Remember that proper dental health care begins with open communication. The more that you share with your dentist, the better the treatment you’ll be able to get for each of your concerns.

It’s important that adults and children alike get a routine check up at least once every year. For younger patients, the earlier that orthodontic options are considered, the sooner a beautiful straight smile will be possible.

Why are regular check-ups needed

It’s often tempting to avoid going to the dentist until there is an emergency situation. Think of your routine check up as being a prevention rather than a cure for those emergency concerns. It is during your check ups that your dentist will be able to determine which types of treatments can best benefit you.

    Dentist Check Up Treatment Process

At your check up each tooth will be closely examined, and its condition will be noted. X-rays may be needed in order to determine the full extent of any decay or damage that is noted and photographs may be taken.

Remember that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment option when it comes to dental health. You’ll be offered the treatment solutions that will help you to meet your dental healthcare goals.

It’s often a good idea to have a dental checkup and dental hygiene visit during the same visit to the clinic. Please let us know if you wish to book the two appointments so that we can organise them for you in advance. A professional cleaning will remove the plaque and tartar buildup that can lead to gum disease and further decay.

What are the advantages to a dentist check up?

When you work with your dentist to keep your teeth and gums healthy, you will actually stop issues before they become a serious problem.

Regular visits with our dental hygienist can remove any stains on your teeth caused by tobacco, coffee, tea, wine, cola, fruit juices, curries, soy sauce, beetroots, etc., ensuring your smile is white, bright and ready to dazzle!

The sooner that any dental concerns are identified and treated, the less likely you are to have escalated dental health emergencies. If you are in need of additional treatments, like fillings or root canal therapy, or perhaps orthodontic solutions, your routine check up is the ideal chance to discuss your options with your dentist.
